What we do
Our vision: communities in which people live free from crime and the fear of crime
Northumbria Community Rehabilitation Company (Northumbria CRC) works with adult offenders in the community, to protect the public and reduce reoffending. We provide the broadest range of probation services across Northumbria.
We supervise an average of 3500 offenders at any one time. This includes offenders who are:
- on community orders
- on suspended sentence orders
- on post sentence supervision, following their release from prison
We undertake structured programmes of work to challenge attitudes, address lifestyle issues and improve victim awareness. We also supervise groups of offenders on Community Payback, completinfg unpaid work in local communities as part of their sentence.
We work in partnership with a range of public, private and voluntary sector organisations to deliver the broad range of interventions needed to protect the public and reduce reoffending. This includes our supply chain of providers, including drug and alcohol treatment, housing and education & training.
We are a key part of the criminal justice system, working alonside Northumbria Police, HM Prison Service and the National Probation Service to provide safer communities for local people.
Northumbria CRC was officially launched on 1 June 2014 as part of the government's Transforming Rehabilitation programme. Although we are a new company, we have a wealth of experience in successfully managing offenders and protecting the public.
As Northumbria Probation Trust we had a long history of delivering results. We were the only probation trust to achieve the highest performance rating for five consecutive years. Our excellent performance was also commended by HM Inspectorate of Probation in two recent inspections.
